If every week doesn\u2019t require you to work as hard as you do and there\u2019s a constant flow of cash, would you care about listening to customers? How much do you even listen to customers now?<\/p>\n

As humans, we suck at listening and that\u2019s bad for marketing a brand. Here are the basic steps to help improve your listening skills\u2026<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Ask better, more intentional questions<\/strong>
\nWhen you try to understand your customers by listening to them, you create a safe environment. Sometimes this is as simple as engaging with the right questions. One of the easiest questions to ask for best results: \u201cWhy?\u201d.<\/p>\n

2. \u00a0Be empathetic and curious<\/strong>
\nYou build empathy like you build super-fast typing skills: with time and practice. It plays a huge part in your business. Business is about meeting human needs, If you don\u2019t understand another human\u2019s needs, you will find it impossible to meet them as a business. So be empathetic and try to understand your customer\u2019s life, struggles and desires. Not through your eyes but through theirs. While you\u2019re digging into empathy, you may find yourself increasingly curious about what your customers are going through.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Take GOOD notes<\/strong>
\nMaybe you\u2019re already taking notes during a conversation. I know I do. Because I\u2019ve gotta see the words written down in order to retain them but unless your notes help you understand others \u2013 and plan your response \u2013 they\u2019re practically useless.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Throughout the conversation, recap what you hear<\/strong>
\nTo quiet your restless mind, you need to review and summarize the main points of the user or customer you\u2019re listening to. When they\u2019re finished talking, you restate the points. Double-check that you\u2019ve understood their message by saying things like, \u201cWhat I hear you saying is\u2026\u201d or \u201cWhen you say that, do you mean ____?\u201d<\/p>\n

When you practice these techniques, you:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Process information better,
\nPay more attention to your speaker\u2019s message and meaning, and
\nMake people feel heard (AKA the biggest benefit as when someone feels heard, they feel understood).<\/p>\n
